Danke Deutschland

AFRICA, BE READY!

Africa, your son has missed you. He brings back not just memories, but a whole new positive energy and love to give to your children. He learnt, while in a land far away that the greatest value, the most sought after commodity in life is Love and he got it in bundles! Germany has challenged him, like hot flames do to purify gold.
She has exposed him to her Language, her History, her culture through her children! She slowly matured him with time while in her presence, like wine matures in gallons and now he is like mature wine, not sweeter, but worth more!
Mama Africa, prepare yourself for a young black man, no longer a boy. He hast stories of love to tell, stories about a land of the brave, the die hards, the innovatives who dared to seek quality above all! He has stories of men and women who have proven that UBUNTU was not just a philosophy, for they have shown this young man the best of while away from home!
Africa, join me as I take off my hat and expose the thanks in my heart for the German people who welcomed me and loved me during my stay as an Exhange student!
Ngiyabonga, makwande!
Danke!

Home Theatre System...

It is unfortunate that life comes with no manual. One has to somehow figure everything out himself or rely on those who have a little more experience. Much like when you receive your new Home Theatre System and you try and assemble everything together without using the guidelines. You twist and turn wires, pull and bend parts. You get frustrated and at some point, want to give up and wish you could just take it back to the store.
At the end, after the frustration, pulling of hair and having short circuits, you finally have it all well assembled and connected to the main plug, you then step back, take a sigh and  feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment fills you.
In the above scenario one still has the option of simply using the free manual that comes packed with the set; life doesn't.
Now where am I going with this? Well, I recently realised that it is part of life to be frustrated, angry and wish to give when you are in a difficult situation or challenged, but when you imagine the end, as you step back and look at your accomplishments, your achievements and breakthroughs. You image yourself, filled with pride and a passive sigh somewhere deep in your chest ready to burst with a cry of accomplishment, than you just have to keep going!
So far my exchange has been exciting, but also plagued with moments in which I should have just thrown the towel. However, when I realise that the time will come when I am on the plane back home, I will be filled with pride and only good memories will be playing in my head!
Face it!...( In Ziegenrück)

Keep going!...( In Ziegenrück)
I would have forgotten all those stressful and sad moments!

I love you Germany!

My pride ,My hair!

We all have hair, with different textures and lengths. It is a natural defence mechanism against temperature and insects, for many it is also a piece of identity. Through time and across multiple cultures hair has defined and still defines many roles or people in society.

Today some of us love our hair as it is, while some would rather change their natural hair for something more 'current'. Well, I am an advocate for freedom of expression, which many come in different forms, including hairstyles.

Living in Europe, for the first time in my life I have come to really appreciate my hair. I am not talking about recycled or machine made plastic strips, I'm referring to my thick dark,  frizzy, curly, kinky and bouncy natural, proudly African hair covering my head. Carefully and evenly planted  from the edge of my forehead, all the way around my head to meet at the back of my neck.Much like mature grass across veld and hills of an African landscape. It has become a great part of my identity as an African. Not only because many of my German friends are envious of me as I decide to roll dreadlocks in one week and then just trim the next week, they envy how my hair shines under the sun, while keeping a cool temperature ,much like a natural air conditioner. They wonder at the beauty, the perfection of my hair and the elegance in the way each hair curves in its journey upwards. My hair completes the definition of me as an African man, dark and lovely.

Recently, as I was scrolling through my Facebook home page, I came across a post entitled 'Looking Smart',with a picture accompanying it. In the picture were high school students smartly dressed in their full school uniform. As impressive as it was, I couldn't help but realise that all the girls, with the exception of two, had fake, Synthetic extensions planted and hanging on their heads!

Young African women! I cannot help but realise the symbolism behind this, though we are no longer colonised as a people in Africa by other nations, but we have volunteered ourselves to keeping to the imperial western standards. We refuse to accept the legitimacy of the African model in this modern day and rather follow those, whose culture deliberately despises the dignity of Africa.

I am just expressing my opinion, however for an African renaissance to take place we need to start to look at ourselves and take pride.

African man, African woman, You Are Beautiful!
